Choosing the right medical professional for your circumstances is not easy; I know this as someone with high-masking autism & ADHD co-occurring. I’d been curious to explore my symptoms for quite some time, aware how ADHD behaviour with ASD could be more nuanced to identify, & may overlap, or cancel-out. I also felt confused though, having previously been dismissed by one medical professional, on the basis I had been able to sit still during our conversation (an outdated view BTW!). I subsequently carried out a lot of research before finding Dr Alessandra Cappai, and I’m incredibly pleased I did. When scheduling my appointment, Zahra was incredibly considerate in communicating the process effectively, so I felt comfortable with what to expect. Plus, I didn’t have to wait for months either. Dr Cappai was particularly helpful at directing my assessment so conversation remained focused on the most relevant details and explored my personal experience, whilst playing back comments in a way that made me feel understood. This ensured time was used effectively to also then offer support, rather than simply assess. I left my assessment equipped with useful action points which I have been able to implement immediately to help ease certain pain-points. I was also provided some useful research pointers and concepts to consider, on the topic of various approaches for treatment.
