Private Combined ADHD & Autism Assessments in London & Online

At Diverse Minds Clinic, we offer combined adult ADHD and autism assessments that explore both conditions as part of the same diagnostic process.

Consultant psychiatrist Dr Alex Cappai conducts assessments in person at our Harley Street clinic in central London or securely online across the UK.

Typical ADHD symptoms

Many individuals with ADHD also experience challenges with sleep, emotional regulation, academic or professional performance, and self-esteem.

Combined ADHD & Autism Assessments In The UK

You may recognise some of your experiences when reading about ADHD and others when reading about autism. Perhaps neither condition alone seems to explain the full picture. ADHD and autism are separate neurodevelopmental conditions, but they can occur together. Some traits can also overlap, which can make it difficult to understand what may be behind the challenges you experience in everyday life.

ADHD & ASD Assessment FAQs

Yes. ADHD and autism are separate neurodevelopmental conditions, but a person can meet the diagnostic criteria for both. A combined assessment can explore both conditions when there are reasons to consider each one.

AuDHD is an informal term often used to describe someone who is both autistic and has ADHD. It is not a separate assessment or diagnosis. During a combined assessment, ADHD and autism are considered individually as part of the wider clinical picture.

A combined assessment may be appropriate if you have not previously received a formal diagnosis and believe you may have traits associated with both ADHD and autism. If you already have an ADHD or autism diagnosis and would like to explore the other condition, please contact the clinic so we can help you identify the most appropriate appointment.

Combined assessments at Diverse Minds Clinic are available as appointments of up to 120 minutes. You will also complete relevant screening tools before your assessment, which are scored and interpreted as part of the service.

Yes. Diverse Minds Clinic offers secure online combined ADHD and autism assessments for adults across the UK, as well as face-to-face appointments at our Harley Street clinic in London.

Yes. A detailed diagnostic report is included as part of the combined ADHD and autism assessment. It will explain the findings of the assessment and provide recommendations based on the outcome.

You can book a free 10-minute discovery call with Diverse Minds Clinic before arranging your assessment. This gives you the opportunity to discuss which assessment option may be most appropriate for your circumstances.

Could I Have Both ADHD and Autism?

It is possible to be both autistic and have ADHD. For some adults, the picture is relatively clear. For others, experiences associated with ADHD and autism can overlap, interact or sometimes seem to work against each other.

For example, you might value routine and predictability but find staying organised difficult. You may become completely absorbed in particular interests while struggling to concentrate on tasks that do not hold your attention. Social situations may require considerable effort, while restlessness, impulsivity or difficulty managing your attention create challenges of their own.

Experiences like these can have many different explanations, which is why a detailed assessment looks beyond individual traits or online screening questionnaires.

A combined ADHD and autism assessment considers your experiences as a whole rather than assuming that everything must fit neatly within one condition.

Common Reasons Adults Consider a Combined ADHD and Autism Assessment

You may want to explore a combined assessment if you:

  • recognise traits associated with both ADHD and autism
  • have found that descriptions of ADHD or autism alone do not fully reflect your experiences
  • experience difficulties with attention, organisation or time management alongside social or sensory differences
  • find change difficult but also struggle to maintain routines
  • experience periods of intense focus alongside distractibility or difficulty getting started
  • have spent years masking or adapting your behaviour around other people
  • have previously been told that ADHD or autism could be worth exploring
  • want a clearer understanding of lifelong patterns affecting work, relationships or everyday life

You do not need to decide for yourself whether ADHD, autism or both are the answer before having an assessment. The purpose of the process is to explore your experiences carefully and reach an informed clinical conclusion.

Choosing the right medical professional for your circumstances is not easy; I know this as someone with high-masking autism & ADHD co-occurring. I’d been curious to explore my symptoms for quite some time, aware how ADHD behaviour with ASD could be more nuanced to identify, & may overlap, or cancel-out. I also felt confused though, having previously been dismissed by one medical professional, on the basis I had been able to sit still during our conversation (an outdated view BTW!). I subsequently carried out a lot of research before finding Dr Alessandra Cappai, and I’m incredibly pleased I did. When scheduling my appointment, Zahra was incredibly considerate in communicating the process effectively, so I felt comfortable with what to expect. Plus, I didn’t have to wait for months either. Dr Cappai was particularly helpful at directing my assessment so conversation remained focused on the most relevant details and explored my personal experience, whilst playing back comments in a way that made me feel understood. This ensured time was used effectively to also then offer support, rather than simply assess. I left my assessment equipped with useful action points which I have been able to implement immediately to help ease certain pain-points. I was also provided some useful research pointers and concepts to consider, on the topic of various approaches for treatment. I am confident I will be choosing Dr Cappai’s expertise again in the near future, as I follow-up on some of these options.

I’ve met Dr Cappai several years ago and she has a warm personality, you really feel she is listening to you and understanding where you are coming from. The online appointments are very helpful, particulary living abroad, and they work very well.
